The Patient Transport Service (PTS) provides NHS-funded transport for eligible people who are unable to travel to their healthcare appointments by other means due to their medical condition.
Patients are now required to contact the Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) directly to book transport. However many wards and clinics will arrange your transport on your behalf; use the contact details on your appointment letter if you are unsure.
If you are registered with a GP in Yorkshire or North East Lincolnshire, call the Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) on 0300 330 2000 between 08.00 and 18.00 to make a transport booking.
Where you are eligible for transport, please ensure that you book your transport at least 48 hours prior to your appointment, as the YAS may be unable to meet requests in a shorter time frame. For same day enquiries, please call 01423 553 588
For further information, please visit the Yorkshire Ambulance Service website - https://www.yas.nhs.uk/our-services/patient-transport-service-pts/managing-your-booking/
The NHS has limited resources and providing and arranging non emergency patient transport for patients to attend hospital appointments, must be reserved only for those whose medical conditions warrants it. In general patients are expected to make their own arrangements for travelling to and from healthcare premises, and this means that patients requesting the service must now meet the required criteria which is detailed below.
Patients attending NHS treatment do not have an automatic right to Non Emergency Patient Transport if they do fully meet the eligibility criteria. For more information on eligibility criteria, please visit the Yorkshire Ambulance Service website - https://www.yas.nhs.uk/our-services/patient-transport-service-pts/eligibility/
