Flu Campaign
2008
Our annual flu campaign will start in October.
Clinics will be held on:
October 9th, from 3pm to 7pm
and
October 22nd, from 2pm to 6pm
Please telephone the surgery for an appointment.
Following the success of our new system last year,
patients will be allocated the half hour timeslot of
their choice (demand allowing) and invited to come down
at that time, when we will be offering the vaccination
on a first come, first served basis.
Everyone over 65 is entitled to a free flu vaccination,
as is anyone suffering from a chronic long term illness,
such as asthma, COPD, diabetes, heart disease and many
others.

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING CHILDHOOD IMMUNISATIONS
With effect from our May clinics, you will no longer
receive letters from the practice calling their child
for his/her childhood immunisations. Instead, these
letters will be sent to you directly from the Leeds
Child Health Service, which is based at St Mary’s
Hospital in Leeds, and is responsible for the
administration and management of all childhood
immunisation data within Leeds and the surrounding
areas. The first letters will be sent out from the third
week of April.
There will be little or no change to any other part of
the service within the practice. Patients will still
need to ring in to make an appointment and the clinics
will continue to be held on the same days as they are
now.
Parents bringing children for their first immunisations
and eight-week check will no longer be sent a letter
from the practice inviting them to a clinic on a
particular date and time. They will receive a letter
from St Mary’s, inviting them for their baby’s first
injections and will have to ring the practice to make an
appointment.
The decision to use St Mary’s is part of the practice’s
ongoing commitment to provide the most efficient and
effective services to its patients. If you have any
queries regarding this change, please contact Peter
McIntyre, our IT Manager on the usual surgery number.

Change to Prescriptions
You may notice that, when you collect a
prescription, it now includes a barcode on it. This is
part of a new NHS initiative called Electronic
Prescribing, which will enable GPs and Pharmacists to
provide a more efficient and effective service. It will
have no direct effect on patients.
When you take your prescription to the Pharmacist, (s)he
will swipe the barcode, which will automatically record
the details of the items that you have requested. These
will then be issued to you in the usual way. If the
Pharmacist does not have the facility to swipe the
barcode, (s)he will simply deal with the request in the
traditional way. If you do, on any occasion, receive a
prescription that does not have a barcode on it, please
do not worry. Simply take it to the Pharmacist as normal
and you will receive the items requested. This service
will be introduced over the coming weeks.
If you require further information, please contact Peter
McIntyre, our IT Manager, on the usual surgery number.
